Palmetto Outdoor offers a variety of adventures for individuals or groups of any size. Lower levels are full of opportunities to view the breath-taking landscape and abundant wildlife. In May, a rare and beautiful water lily blooms along the islands that pack the Saluda and Broad River confluence. Experience South Carolina’s natural treasures you may not have even known exist.
At higher levels, the excitement kicks in as large volumes of water roar down-river from the Lake Murray Dam. The combination of great southern whitewater with the convenience of downtown takeout make rafting the Saluda, Broad, and Congaree rivers the most accessible, fun activity available in the area. After emerging from the river, wrap up your day by satisfying your hunger at some of the best restaurants Columbia and West Columbia have to offer only blocks away.
Our trips start at $50 per person which can increase as level or trip options change. See below for prices and descriptions of trips available.

The Saluda can be run at any level but it’s best when water is released from Lake Murray. When the flows are normal, this river trip can last about three hours and provide a series of class I-III whitewater. The day includes a ride through the infamous Class III-IV Mill Race rapids providing thrills and spills! The wildlife is more abundant at normal flows, and can be observed better at this level than on the shorter Thunder River Run.
When SCE&G is running four or more water turbines, the Saluda becomes a maelstrom of thunderous whitewater rapids that will get your blood pumping. The deafening crush of waves can approach 6 feet or more in size! This run takes about two hours and is worth every action-packed minute. The Thunder River Run will appeal to the adventure seeker looking for their next adrenaline fix!
Booking a trip is easy--Email us or give us a call. Also, check out our MySpace site, which we update frequently to notify you when whitewater is present; or check out our website calendar which is also updated daily. We tend to fill up quickly when the water is high and fast, so call us to book your whitewater adventure today!
Note: We request four or more participants for our privately guided raft trips. There is a minimum charge of $200 for fewer than requested participants. All trips include a life jacket, wetsuit and transportation.
*Important*:All trips are at the mercy of outflow from SCE&G's hydroelectric plant located 10 miles upstream Therefore trips are subject to change, but with our river tracking methods and SCE&G's public service announcements, the level can be determined 2-3 days before a trip date. With upcoming improved communication from SCE&G, water releases could be forecast up to a month in advance.
